They have computerized locks and are well-monitored inside the train stations.<br /><br />3. You can purchase a Eurail Pass online but you'll have to give an address where to mail it to. You have to apply in the country where you're staying the longest or your main destination. I had to get my Schengen visa in Jakarta since there's no Portuguese Embassy in the Philippines. For as long as all your papers are in order (students or those without a job will still need proof of income, personal or of parents) you shouldn't have a problem.<br /><br />@Nina, the water bottles do come in handy.
